This is a groundbreaking challenge, solved through an innovative asymmetrical design. <strong>The sails and crane are positioned in a complementary way<\/strong>, allowing the ship to operate fully autonomously during port calls<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Optimized to Sail with the Wind<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The vessel is design to reach an average speed of <strong>9 knots<\/strong>, with the ability to accelerate using wingsails when there&#8217;s a tailwind. The sailing system features <strong>three rigid, fixed-profile wingsails<\/strong>, mounted on a tripod axle. <strong>Containers<\/strong> are stacked across six levels in three open holds. If there is no wind, a backup MGO diesel engine kicks in to ensure continuous navigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Up to 90 % Fuel Savings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to its sails, the Windcoop cargo ship can <strong>save up to 90% on fuel<\/strong>, depending on the route and season. This estimate is based on navigation simulations by <strong>D-ICE Engineering<\/strong>, using weather data from the past decade. It built the <strong>Neoliner<\/strong>, an iconic sailing cargo. To support this objective, <strong>a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)<\/strong> is being carried out with the consulting firm <strong>H\u00e9v\u00e9a<\/strong> and the French Agency for Ecological Transition (<strong>ADEME<\/strong>). This LCA will provide a comprehensive and objective measurement of the <strong>vessel\u2019s environmental, economic, and social impacts<\/strong>,<strong> from design to end-of-life<\/strong>.
